FAQ - The Fine Print

Do you do commission work?

Sure do! Please shoot me a note if you have a creative project in mind, and hopefully I can help out.

You can see some past work I've done for others here, and here.

Where do you ship to?

I ship worldwide, with the exception of the UK and the EU. Sorrryyy!!! :(

If you live / want to ship to the UK or EU, please contact me. I still haven’t navigated the new rules about VAT in the EU / UK… and since the vast majority of my sales are to people in Canada / USA, I haven't been motivated to research or set things up; BUT if you are outside these countries and want to make a purchase, please be in touch — and that will light a fire under me! :) My understanding is that it might be possible to set up on Etsy, but I just haven't had the bandwidth to figure it out yet!

What methods of payment do you accept?

The following methods of payment are available at checkout:

  • Paypal
  • Visa (credit and debit cards)
  • MasterCard (credit and debit cards)
  • American Express
  • Discover (US merchants only)

If you prefer Email Transfer, then feel free to shoot me a note and we can arrange.

What shipping options do you offer?

I use Canada Post to mail your purchases to you.

For shipments within Canada or to the US, you have the option of choosing Regular mail or XpressPost when you check out.

You will see that XPressPost is more expensive, as it includes the following features:

  • shipping time of 1 - 3 business days in the 10 provinces, depending on address (the closer to Ottawa, the quicker!); up to 6 business days in the 3 Territories (see note above about delays);
  • tracking number;
  • liability coverage up to $100.

For International shipments, I only offer Regular (Surface) mail which, you'll see, is already quite expensive — and I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to spend more… but if you'd like a quicker option, please be in touch and we can figure out a shipping quote.

What about customs, duty, and other charges?

Customers will be responsible for any additional fees (customs / duty charges, etc.)

This includes VAT for EU countries and other applicable countries.

Can I pick up if I’m local?

Yup! If you live in Ottawa and would prefer to pick up your purchase (I live near Carlingwood Mall), select the Ottawa (Carlingwood) - Local / Pick-up option at checkout, and we will arrange a porch pick-up when your order is ready :)

When will my order be ready to ship?

Calendars will be printed after the pre-sale orders are in on November 16th, and they will be ready for shipping / pick-up in the hopes that they will arrive by the holidays.

Prints are output on demand. This takes a 3-4 business days to turn around and for the ink to dry, before they are ready to ship.

Greeting cards are ready to ship within 1-2 business days.

Custom orders take the longest: we will work together to create the piece, after which I would have it printed and then shipped. Definitely not a last-minute gift option :)

When will my order arrive?

The pandemic has caused delays or cancellations of service around the world; XpressPost services may be quicker than Regular, but Canada Post does not guarantee timing for any deliveries for now. Please refer to this page to see what parts of the world are affected and how. That said...

Expected delivery times for REGULAR MAIL (including printing / ink-drying time):

  • within CANADA : 10 - 15 business days
  • to the US: 12 business days to 3 weeks
  • Internationally: 12 business days up to 12 weeks for remote areas
  • but please note that delivery times are not guaranteed or dependable.

Expected delivery times for XPRESSPOST (including printing / ink-drying time):

  • within CANADA : 4 - 7 business days in the 10 Provinces; up to 9 days in the Territories
  • to the USA: 8 - 10 business days
  • again, please note that COVID is making delivery times less dependable — so even if XpressPost is supposed to have guaranteed delivery times, Canada Post sometimes falls through

Why is shipping so dang expensive?

I know. It’s brutal. I’m looking at other options, but Canada Post ain’t cheap. Please know that I’ve spent hours figuring out shipping costs for every option and am only asking for enough to cover my own costs to ship (postage plus packaging supplies).

What about lost or damaged orders?

I am not responsible for lost or damaged items… but please let me know if there are any issues with your purchase, and I’ll work with you to find a solution!

What if I want a refund or to return my purchase?

For digital downloads: All sales are final and refunds are not issued. That being said, if you have an issue with a digital purchase, please be in touch and I’ll see what I can do to make things better :)

For custom artwork / prints: I can’t offer a full refund on custom prints after first proof has been sent to you. If you would like a return before we begin work on the artwork, shoot me a note.

For art prints: If you would like to return your purchase for any reason, please contact me to let me know, and then return in the same packaging and in original condition within 30 days of purchase.

Refund will be issued once return shipment has been received in original condition.

All return shipping is paid by the customer

For all: Shipping costs are non refundable if the item is returned.

What are giclée prints?

Giclée — pronounced ‘zhee-clay’ — is from the French verb gicler, which means ‘to spray’ (as in ink).

A giclée print is created with a specialized inkjet printer that can spray ink as small as 1/100th the width of human hair and with the highest quality pigment ink. This process is generally regarded by the art industry as the best in terms of quality of reproduction and colour accuracy, and is estimated to remain colourfast for 75 years.

Please note:

  • Prints are output on demand. This takes a 3-4 business days to turn around and for the ink to dry before they are ready to ship.
  • Prints come unframed, packaged in a protective sleeve and rigid mailer.

What kind of paper are the prints on?

In a nutshell, when it comes to printing and paper quality, you get what you pay for.

I offer my art prints on Textured Fine Art Paper, which I’ve chosen because it’s archival quality, acid-free, 100% cotton, and has a lovely soft finish that the artwork prints beautifully on… and yet is also affordable.

For custom name prints, I also offer the additional option of printing on Epson Enhanced Matte — just in case that works better for someone’s baby shower gift budget.

Paper geekery:

  • Textured Fine Art Paper: Acid-free base, PH-buffered, 100% cotton rag on 340 gsm weight. 19 mil thickness, 98% opacity, 96% ISO brightness; bright white surface with soft textured finish.
  • Epson Enhanced Matte Paper: 192 gsm weight, 10.3 mil thickness, 94% opacity, and 104% ISO brightness. Bright white with smooth, flat matte surface. Not acid-free or archival, but still yields excellent quality prints.

There are even more expensive and fancier papers out there that are thicker or offer other features. If you’d rather one of these, please feel free to contact me to arrange.
